How do you control woodworm yourself?
It is the nightmare for many homeowners, woodworm. Especially in houses with a wooden construction this can be disastrous. These creatures easily eat their way through wooden beams, which can eventually make the whole construction fragile. It is therefore a must to start fighting these creatures as soon as possible when you realise that they are in the house. Before you call in a specialist, however, you can try a lot yourself. With the help of the tips below you can arm yourself against these unpleasant guests.
TIP 1: FOREVER BETTER THAN GENEZEN
The easiest tip is of course to prevent a woodworm infestation. Of course this sounds easier than it is, but with a few simple actions you can easily keep these creatures out. The woodworm has a preference for untreated wood. The woodworm can easily nest in this wood. In case of woodwork that might come into contact with woodworm, it is therefore advisable to have this treated. Woodwork that is indoors, on the other hand, needs to be well ventilated. Woodworm thrives well in warm humid places. By making the environment unattractive to this creature, you reduce the chance that they will visit you.
TIP 2: THE NATURAL METHOD
It may sound like a crazy tip. Yet it really makes sense to lay acorns near the woodworm. This creature is crazy about these acorns and will exchange your house for these acorns. As soon as you see that the acorns are affected, you can remove them by burning them, for example. Difficult with this method is that you are not sure if you have caught all the critters. Afterwards you may have to repeat this.
TIP 3: THE CHEMICAL METHOD
This is not the tip you think it is. The petrol should not be lit. This also becomes practically impossible if the place is indoors. With petrol, however, it is possible to attack this creature. You take a brush and a small bowl of petrol. Then rub the petrol on the wood. Keep in mind that petrol is very flammable. It is also possible to dilute it with water. Another point to take into account is the possible traces it leaves behind. Test this petrol on a piece of wood that is not visible. The petrol is so poisonous to a woodworm that it is unlikely to survive contact with it. Petroleum or turpentine can also be used instead of petrol.
TIP 4: THE METHOD OF THE FABRIKANT
There are a lot of remedies on the market that can combat woodworm. However, some remedies work many times less than others. It is therefore important to choose the right pesticide. Online there are a lot of different agents in circulation. This large supply can make you not know which one to choose. In that case, always look for a pesticide with real user experiences, so that you can be sure that this pesticide does its job.
TIP 5: THE SPECIALISTIC METHOD
If none of the above tips work and you continue to suffer from woodworm? In that case it is necessary to contact a specialist as soon as possible. Although this is the most expensive method, this way you are assured of a woodworm free home.
